Summer is in full swing on Sanibel & Captiva Islands! The gulf waters are hot and so is the fishing! We’ve had quite a busy month with many sneaking in one more visit before the new school year begins, and the weather and fishing have been stellar!

July and August have been full of tight lines and great times! The Snook are on the beaches and the Mangrove Snapper and Grouper bite has been strong as ever! There’s been plenty of Speckled Trout as well as Redfish and Spanish Mackerel to go around! So if you’ve been trying squeeze in one more trip before the kids go back to school, the time is now!

Beach time!

Summertime also means beach time!!! The waters have remained clean and clear for sometime now. They are absolutely perfect for a dip after a fun day on water! So don’t hesitate to request some beach time on one of the many remote beaches in the area. Take some time to explore and soak up some of the good life before going back to work or school!  We’ll be happy to accommodate – and likely to participate!

While taking a dip on the beaches, be sure to keep an eye out for big Snook cruising the shoreline! More often than not you’ll find them very close to the shore, in no more than ankle deep water. Keep an eye out for signs of fish. A slow moving shadow along the bottom or even bait fish flipping out of the water.

Snook are likely have their noses pointed into the current while in search of their next meal. Be sure to keep an eye out ahead, and have either a live bait or possibly a swim bait ready to go. A well placed cast out in front of the fish could help you catch some Southwest Florida beach monsters this year!

In fact, the beach at this time of year can be a great place to find almost any species of fish. Reds, Snook, Mackerel as well as Trout and even Tarpon can often be found within casting distance of the beach. And even if the fish choose not to participate, its still a great place to put your feet in the sand and watch the sun disappear into the Gulf of Mexico.

I hope everyone’s summer is going well, and here’s wishing you and your family a health and safe school year!
